{"id":1158,"date":"2021-02-09T18:39:11","date_gmt":"2021-02-09T18:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.schsl.org\/?p=1158"},"modified":"2021-06-27T16:15:17","modified_gmt":"2021-06-27T16:15:17","slug":"concussion-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.schsl.org\/wp57\/archives\/1158","title":{"rendered":"Concussion management"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Definitions Associated With Concussion Rule<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Appropriate Health-Care Professional<\/strong>: an individual(s) from the following professions who are designated as the persons to diagnose whether an athlete has or does not have a concussion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MD<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 A medical doctor licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina<br><strong>DO<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 A doctor of osteopathic medicine licensed to practice in South Carolina|<br><strong>PA<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 A physicians assistant licensed to practice in South Carolina<br><strong>NP<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 A registered nurse practitioner licensed to practice in South Carolina<br><strong>AT<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 An athletic trainer certified nationally or by the State of South Carolina<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These shall be the only persons who shall clear an athlete\u2019s re-entry into a contest when the athlete has been removed from the contest due to signs or symptoms of a concussion (as described in the NFHS rules book for each sport).&nbsp; If none of these are present at the contest, the athlete shall not return to that contest or any subsequent contest until cleared by one of the above listed health-care professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Contest Officials Role<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 to recognize the symptoms consistent with that of a concussion and remove the athlete from the contest until he\/she has been diagnosed by an appropriate health-care professional.
